COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Tutorial Class Committee reported to- the. Victoria College Council : last evening that the committee for the year had been constituted as follows:—Representatives for council, Messrs. Watson, Fleming, Wilson, and Professor Hunter; representatives for Workor6' Education Association, Messrs. Ward, Reardon, M'Kcnzie, and Willis; chairman, Mr. C. Watson. The Registrar of the College had been appointed secretary. The committee had recognised the following classes that have complied with the necessary conditions{l) Economics (Wellington), tutor, Mr. F. L. Combs, M.A., vice Mr. J. B. Condliffe, M.A. (appointed assistant to Professor of Economics at Canterbury College); (2) English (Wellington), tutor,. Mr. W. 11. L. Foster, M.A.; (3) Theory of.Electricity (Wellington), tutor, Mr. P. Burbidge, 'M.Sc., vico Professor Marsden (enlisted). These classes were all beginning their second year's work. The committee had agreed to allot .£SO towards the cost of a closs in economics in Palmerston North, the local council making a grant of- .£SO. Mr. B. E. Murphy, M.A., LL.B., B. Com., has been appointed tutor, subject to the minimum number-of students signing the class Sledge. The . class is to begin work on [ay 17, and' recognition would be given as isoon as the necessary conditions were complied with. The Workers' Educational' Association had asked the Tutorial Committee to take over a class in economics at Petone, and the committee had been compelled to reply that its funds would not 'permit it to do so unless the association could provide .£SO. The resources of the committee for this year were:—Balance of grant for 1915. .£103.'25. 2d.; grant for 191G, .£300; total, ,£4OB. 2s. 2d. The estimates for the year amounted to .£400." It would be seen that the Palmerston North and Petone classes were oeing partly financed out of the balance of 1915. If those classes wcro to bo carricd on after this year additional funds would be necessary. The branches of the W.E.A. in fhe four University districts proposed to ask the Government to make a grant, as was done m England, New South Wales, Queensland, and elsewhere, and the committee asked the council to appoint a member to accompany the deputation. ; After the report was read Mr. Wm. Ferguson was appointed the representative of the council on tho deputation.
