ENEMY ALIENS.

Sir,—lt does seem extraordinary that niter the example-of Dublin ■in front of their eyes, the Government are not beginning to lake any steps.in regard to aliens in this country. Every obstacle seems to be put in the way of doing anything against aliens; even the Government declines to mova in the matter until they receive instructions from the Home authorities. Are 'they going to ■wait for instructions from Air. Birrell ■liei'ore having AVelliugton and Auckland turned topsy .tuny again? What does all this apathy , mean ? Wo always understood this was it self-governing colony. There are 4000 big; strapping Austrian guni-diggcrs .north of Auckland, the bulk .of them absolutely disUiyal, and more than likely a great number of them •amiE-il. In Australia they have disarmed all enemy aliens, and alfo' disfranchised them. Why is it our Government does not disfranchise them in. New Zealand? Are they afraid of losing-votes? Very i'etvseem to Ik acquainted with the Jaw, that Germany claims as a citizen every one' of. Ohnan descent, as was pointed out before a well-known Magistrate in (Jhristehurch, and the Magistrate .declared that a man who had been 'born iu London having only a German fnlh<T was still it German. It is to bo honed that when the mombars assemble tiiey will give this serions menace some consideration.—l am, etc., ; ■ FOIJEAVAENED.
