DEFENDED ACTIONS.Hearing was concluded of the action in which. Hona Scott, spinster; proceeded against James Hadfield, boardinglwiSßkeeper, to_ recover the sum of £22 15s. as dam ages' for assault, alleged to have been committed on April 11. The Magistrate gave judgment for the plaintiff for .88, with costs Mailing J!3 7s. Judgment was reserved in the case in which Hamilton Gilmer claimed .5197 Its. Sd. from Percy Rogers, as -damages for an alleged breach of covenant in connection with tho lease of the To Aro Hotel. The point to be decided in the case is: Whether .ttfe assignee of a lease is liable in respect of a breach of covenant occurring IjefM-e the taking over of the lease. Mr. A. W. Blair appeared yesterday' for the plaintiff, while Mr. T.. Young appeared for the defendant. ,

A RESERVED JUDGMENT. Reserved judgment was'delivered in • tho ease of I'. J. Easton v.. Moore 13r05., a claim for .614 ISs. for damages alleged to be due in consequence'of a collision between plaintiff's liieyclp and defendant's motor lorry. After reviewing the facts before the Cuirt, the Magistrate save, judgment for the defendant, with costs JKI Ms. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for tho ])laintiff, while Mr. J. C. Peacock appeared for the defendants.

. POLICE CASES. ; Police cases were heard by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Harlev Praser, who pleaded guilty to/the theft of an overcoat, was fined .£2, ami ordered to pay Is. for tho expenses of a witness, in default If,: undergo H 'days' imprisonment. Morten Howard Johnscn, the boatswain of the sailing vessel Celtic Glen, was convicted of disobeying the , lawful command)? of the master of the vessel and of assaulting the chief officer. The Magistrate imposed a penalty (Hues and costs) of .£2 lis., the defendant being iriven the option of going to gaol for three days. Edward Jackson was fined £\ for drunkenness, and another .£1 for making use of obscene language, 'd'he alternative was three days' imprisonment. _ A seafaring man. named John Prcdk. Mithcrlaiul. who made use of .bad language when drunk, was fined .il, in default to undergo three days' imprisonment. A soldier, named .Tuhn James Dalton. was remanded ftu' a week on a charge of begging alms in Courtenay Place. Inspector Ueudroy. said that drink vas apparently responsible for the defendant's appearaiice in the dock, and a week in custody would mean absolute prohibition. This might have the desired effect, and nt the end of the week His Worship might perhaps allow Ballon to zo without a conviction, hi view of the fact that

he was a returned soldier. His Worship agreed to adopt the c'ourse suggested. Francis George Edwnrdi Broad was remanded to Auckland on a chargo of failing to provido adequate means for the support of liis wife. He was allowed bail in the sum vf 4'50. Four first-offending inebriates . were dealt with in the usual lenient manner. JUVENILE'COURT. In the. Juvenile Court, a boy, nino years of age, was charged with the th'eft oi.ts. He was admonished and discharged on condition flat he reports himself to the Probation Officer at regular intervals.
