PARLIAMENT
TO BE OPENED THIS AFTERNOON, Parliament will be opened this afternoon by His Excellency tho Governor, and immediately afterwards there will bo ail adjournment. To-morrow references will be made, as tho custom' is. to the-deaths of certain members ana ex-members of the Legislature, whicli have occurred during the\ recess, and tliero will bo an adojurnment. The Houso will adjourn until , to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. The debate on the Address-in-Reply, which in peace- times usually lasted-a fortnight, mid'which last year occupied but two hours, is likely to be short again this year. The mover is to be Mr. D. H. Guthrie, and the seconder Mr. G. s -W. Forbes, senior Government and Opposition Whips respectively before the formation of the National Government. The' debate will open on Thursday. When the Address-in-Reply is agreed 'to the House' should ba ready for ordinary Government business, 1 but in the early stages of the session two of the four_ days in every wfiek are 'devoted to private members' Bills. Indeed, very little Government business is done' ordinarily until after the Budget has made its appearance, and this year the Budget will be readj for the House early in tho session.
