BRITANNIA'S ARMADA
Invincible! in might ye ride Through blizzard, storm, and baffling mist, Where nights of terror wrap the tide, Or when the sea, by Sun is kissed. Ye keepers of our kingdom-gates, Unflinching front the wary foe, That screen'd behind an ambush waits The hour propitious:for his blow! Far-reaching lines of stately ships, '• Incessantly thy caution keep, Lest spies around, with lying lips, Betray, or lull thy watch to sleep! No craven strain defiles the flow Of valiant British blood in they Who man each war-craft as ye go Full steam towards the raid or fray! Descended from Trafalgar's throng, That gave Old England pow'r and fame, Now tune the turret's thunder-song, And yearn to earn an equal name. With Death above, beneath, beyond, Undaunted watchers ... till the end; So Albion's heart shall grow more fond, Uid banish fear whilst ye defend. Britannia, since the noble days Of Nelson's dominating fleet— (When all that world was in a blaze) Still sti"uls "four-square" this war to meet! Y'et not alone! The honest world Hath ranged itself beside thy throne, And swear the flag shall not be furl'd Till Austrian, Hun, and Turk atone! W. GOODE HAMILTON. Wellington, May 4, 1916.
