THE COMING SESSION
GOVERNMENT IS READY
ONE WELCOME ECONOMY
"The' Government Bills will be ready when the House meets," said the Prime Minister yesterday, referring to the business of the .session. "Cabinet has been sitting most of to-day, and part of its business was the consideration of certain Bills." Mr. Massey added that ho did not think thero would be any considerable amount of purely domestic legislation to come before the House this session.
When the House is in session the Printing Office is invariably rushed in producing great numbers of Departmental and other reports. These will also be ready" earlier than usual, the Department having been notified some time ago to have their papers ready for ait early session. One very desirable reform is to be introduced in connection with these Departmental papers.
In more recent years these reports have been filled with expensive illustrations. Illustrating has been carried to absurd lengths, and the cost of tho production of the reports has, in many coses, been out of all proportion to their value. _ Departments have apparently vied with ,'ono another in the competition to produce showy picture books. There will not be so many pictures this year, and the reports will be smaller. Economy is only one of ; the reasons, however; the other is that the Government Printing Office, like all other printing houses in tne Dominion, has I no paper to waste just now.
