COLONIALS IN ACTION
GERMAN-AMERICAN WAR CLOUD : ■ • HUN PRESS DEFIANCE NOTORIOUS TRAITOR . Vs ARRESTED SIR ROGER CASEMENT. CAUGHT. WITH ■' . THE-GUN-RUNNERS : ■ . THE COMPULSION CRISIS The news to-day discloses intermittent activity' on ,the Western , - front, mostly of a local character. The most interesting feature comes , from the Egyptian theatre, where tVc colonial troops have been ill action against the Turks, who wer« engaged some miles east of the Canal line, and. suffered considerably, alth6ugh a small outpost garri- [ son of Yeomanry, heavily attacked, was compelled to withdraw: There is no news from .the Russian front and very little from' the other theatres. An official statement an tiounccs the capture, on board a German gun-runner, off tie Irish coast, of tlio notorious renegade, .Sir, Roger Casement. A sketch of this traitor's -unworthy career is given. .The German-American crisis-seems to be less aoute, though . tlie German Press appears to be recklessly defiant. The British have scored another success in the East African campaign. Sir Edward Grey* • has replied w the American Note of November last, on llie subject of Britain's right of search. Incidentally the British Foreign Minister observes that the old rules have go tie by the board, and each nation is, at present a law unto, itself. The recent Cabinet crisis is the subject of considerable Press comment; one suggestion is that the whole thing was a stage-managed scare, to fore © the Radicals and other anti-com-pulsionists into submission. 1 -
