About 200 cases of eggs had been landed, and on examination ' of several cases which had been deliver- ; ed, thousands of eggs were found to be | unstamped. '•■■■■ Mr. Gallichan -suggested that tho "rime Minister should bo urged to pre- • vent delivery of the eggs . unless 1 stamped. < . i IVXerrett said that the eges ■ should not be : allowed to be landed 1 without protest. Subsequently a committee was set up to. deal with the niattor and wait as a deputation on tho Prime Minister. At the poultrymen's dinner in the evening, Mr. J. A. Sinclair stated .that he bad had a conversation wltlT the Prime.Minister (the Hon. W. F. Massey) on the subject, and Mr./Masse,y had said that he had communicated with the. Customs officers on Saturday mormug, and had instructed them to see that the imported eggs were not cleared unstamped, unless the consignment complied with the Act. ' THo Prime Minister had ,told him (Mr. Sinclair) that the Poods and Drugs Act stated that purchases'made prior to the Act being passed yrere considered as goods m'bond, and therefore if these' un- ! stamped eggs by the Moana were purchased before the Gazette notice of ' February 22 (concerning the importation of eggs) was published, they must 1 ho admitted unstamped.
