Auokland, April 21. A resident of Epsom, named Jame Wells, was bathing from a launch t< day near the Sandspit beach, when h dived from the launch and foiled t come to the surface. There i s no trtic of the body. MOTOR ACCIDENT ON HUTT ROAD A motor accident occurred shortl; before 11 p.m. on Thursday on the Hut Road, tabout half-way between the Hut Railway Station; and White's Line. I appears that a car, containing Misse M'Cloy. Wills, and Dooley. and Messrs Marshall'and Charles Wadlcy (the last named driving), attempted to overtak another car, but owing ,to the bnrstinj of a tire, which has been known ,t< affect the steering, gea'r, it dashed oi to the footpath, into a fence, and fairl "mowed down" about 40ft. of picke posts, etc. Eventually the car tlashet into a close-boarded dividing fence, ant came to an abrupt halt, throwing ou tlio occupants.- Miss Dooley eustainec a compound fracture of the leg, beside, being considerably shaken; Mr. Marshal also received a fr.lctured leg, white J Miss M'Oloy was cut about the hand: and face, and Miss Wills and Mr. Wn'd ley escaped practically -uninjured. Mr W. Bell, who resides in the house when the fence was levelled, states that thr noise of the impact could be heard i considerable distance away, and tlml splinters of wood from fh'e fence were discovered_ upon his roof. Drs. Rose and Harding .(Petone) and Miraniß rendered medical aid; and'the injured persons were conveyed to the "Hosnital. Both cars were travelling from Welling.ton towards Lower Hutt.
