London, April 19. Further details of the Parral encounter state that three hundred of Carranza's soldiers participated, and compelled the American troops .to fight a rearguard action to Santa Cruz.
Major Tompkins was slightly wounded, two troopers were killed, and six wounded.
[It was reported from Washington on April 19 that the punitive expedition to Mexico failed. Carranza and his troops were at Parral, and threatened war if General Pershing proceeded 1 a step further. It was definitely ascertained that the reported death of Villa was simply an excuse to get rid of the American troops.] ■
