Colonel Gibbon, C.G.S., visited Featherston Camp, and Papawai yesterday, afterwards lunching with the Camp Commandant, Lieuten-ont-Colonel Adams. - A Press Association message from London states that Mr. C. Wray Palliser has resigned, his appointment as secretary of the London office of the New Zealand Government. He has been on sick leave in Cornwall _ for months, and tbe doctors have advised him not to return "to London.
The Hon. W. D. S Macdonald has gone to Gisborne to make an. extensive tour of the East Coast.
The Hon. G. W. Russell left last night for Christchurch, en route to Haulier. He will visit Waiwate also before he returns to Wellington on Sunday, next.
The Hon. A. Myers, Minister of Customs", will arrive back In Wellington by this afternoon's train from Auckland.
Captain White-Parsons, R.N.R., harbourmaster at Napier, who has been ordered to report for service on H.M.S. Cornwall, was yesterday voted £100 by the Napier Harbour recognition of a chart of soundings over the harbour, 'prepared by the captain. Captain Oossentine has been appointed temporarily to replace Captain Parsons.
. Mr. James Shaldring, of Auckland, High Chief Banger of the Ancient Order of Foresters High Court of New .Zealand, accompanied by Mr. R. Darlow, High Secretary, arrived in Wellington last evening for the purpose of attending a conference of Friendly Societies of New Zealand, relative to the effect of the working of the National Provident Fund upon the societies. Mr. Shaldring is staying at the Empire •Hotel. ■

King, chief postmaster, Inveroargill, is promoted to the position of chaet postmaster, Dunedin, \as successor to Mr. H. M'Hutehesou, who has retired on superannuation. -Mr. D. St. George,- chief postmaster, Greymouth, is promoted to the position of chief postmaster, Inveroargill. Mr. H. D. Grocott, assistant postmaster, Dunedin, is promoted to the position of chief postmaster, Greymouth. Mr. G. F. B. Smallbone, postmaster, Dannovirke, is promoted to the position of assistant postmaster, Dunedin.
Mr. J. A. Hawke, of Colombo, is a Visitor l to Wellington at the present time. Ho intends to leave New Zealand, en route) for Ceylon, at the end of the month.
Mr. Aubrey E. .Horn, a jnining engineer, who has been engaged on work at the Deep Creek Claim, will leave for England by the Arawa.
The Rev. James Paterson, of Wellington, left here yesterday for TaumaruHui to do the Wanganui River trip.

' Mr. William Oallender, general maniager of the Bank of New Zealand, who has not been enjoying the best of health lately, has been granted leave of absence. H© will leave next week for Honolulu, and expects to be absent from Wellington for about two months. During his absence Mr, A: E. An old settler in New Zealand, Mr. Uames Maginnity, a relative of the Hon. 'A. T. Maginnity, of Nelson, and of the lato Mr. John Maginnity, of Wellington, died in Wellington Hospital on Sunday, and was buried at Karori vesterday. Deceased, who was 75 years of age, was through the Maori war.
Mr. W-. T. Ward, a surveyor from Bouth' Africa, is touring New Zealand. He will leave shortly for Cape Town by the Arawa. • ; . -..-'•'

Mr. Frederic Coleman, F.R.G.S., left Wellington yesterday on a tour of the principal towns of the North Island. •Mr. Frank Talbot is acting as general manager for Mr. Coleman's Australasian tour. .i
Mr. George Stephenson, who has toured New Zealand many times as proprietor and manager of theatrical companies, has been appointed manager of the Opera House in Auckland, the permanent home of the Fuller Vaudeville Compauy.
