KAKOEI CLUB'S OPENING.
The heavy rain 011 Saturday marred the proceedings at the opening of the new golf links belonging to the Karori Golf Club. Provision had been made for the entertainment of about 80 members and their friends, but only about 15 enthusiasts braved the elements. Under the circumstances the competitions for driving, putting, etc., were, postponed, and they will take'place .for the president's prizes on April 22. < In declaring the now links open, Mr. L. George, president, said that the club was grateful for the assistance given by the working committee and Mr. J. M'Cormack in laying out the present nine-hole eourse. The membership bad decreased considcrabfy on account 'of several of their younger players having enlisted, and also original members of the club had joined other clubs when the new links had been proposed. He said that the working committee had given'valuable assistance in clearing the grounds and shifting the club house from the old links. _ The club had taken on a big proposition in the new links. They consisted of 115 acres of very suitable country, a ninehole course having been made on 25 acres. As. time went on, and more members joined, the full ■ 18-hole _ course would be made. After thanking the visitors for attending on such a wet day, and also expressing the club's gratitude to the. secretary, Mr. H. J. Stott, Mr. Oeorge called upon Miss B. George to play the first "ball. Several games were played during the afternoon, and favourable comment was made 011 the new course. Afternoon tea was provided by the club.
