CITY COUNCIL MANAGEMENT.
Sir,—Thoro is a plantation containing a considerable variety of Australian trees, which can bo seen from th© Brooklyn tramway. Tho trcos aro thriving woll, and it is perhaps tho prettiest plantation in the city. It seems almost incredible that the City Corporation carts aro using this placo as a tip lor street rubbish and gradually filling up tho hollow and burying tho trees, which havo boon planted and tendod for years at consirerablo expenso, tho excuse 110ing that another football ground is required, though the Nairn Street ground is within a few hundred yards, 'lwo winters ago a elope in Sydney Street became tho street 1 and tho cemetery was planted with trees' a fence being erected for their protection. Threo or four gaps wore left in tho fence ready to admit a stray horso or- children, and these gaps' have never been mado up, though the attention of the City Engineer has been'drawn to tho matter. During the timo the citizens were almost begged to Use as little water as possible, the corporation servants wore using tons of fresh.- water on Molesworth and Hill Streets. Truly our council and engineering staff are wonderful people.—l am, etc., OBSERVER.
