OLD BOYS' FOOTBALL CLUB
EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT,
The report of tlio Wellington College Old Boys' Football Club for tlio year ended March 31 congratulates tlie first fifteen on winning tlio third-class cham-' pionship for vlie second year in succession, and desires to place ' on record tlie appreciation of Mr. A. E. 'Wilson's efforts in coaching this team, of which most of the members were originally "Wilson's Own" in the fifth-class championship of two seasons ago. Tlio second fifteen, "The Glorious Fourths," for tlio first time did not "keep their lend up," due to a regrettable lack of interest both in training and on the field. Following is the record of matches plavcd;—First fifteen, played 13, won 12,' lost 1; second fifteen, played 10, won 4, lost 6. . It is great pleasure to notice that, as each playing meAber comes of military age, no 'enlists, and we can truthfully say that our club does not include a shirker. The membership shows—Total number on tho roll, 165, viz.: ActivG 65, honorary 5)6, life 4., The financial position is all that could •be desired, the bank balance being £35 Is. 7d., and the liabilities nil. This, after donating £40 to the Cricket Club and £5 ss. to the Wellington College ground fund, must be considered more than satisfactory. Tlie club has to thank the following for donations:— Messrs. J. P. Firth, £1 Is.; Dr. Young, £1 Is.; Dr. Cameron, £1 Is.; W. E. Bethune, £1 Is.; M. C. Barnett, £1 Is.; Dr. Giesen, £1 Is.; Dr, Gilmer, 10s. 6d.; Sir Kenneth Douglas, 10s. 6d.; Dr. Elliot, 10s. 6d.; A. de B. Brandon", 10s. 6d.; B. M. Wilson, 10s. 6d. ' .
The Boxing Club was re-formed in 'conjunction with the Football Club, ■and met with a fair measure of support. The committee regrets to place on record tlie loss by removal of Mr. A/ E. Wilson, who has been transfefred to Rotorua. "Bully" and J. L. Palethorpe were the founders, of the Football Club in .1898, and since that time "Bully" has been the most solid mainstay, and it is solely due to liis efforts that tho. club is "still in . existence. - PETONE FOOTBALL CLUB. The following is ' the report _to be prosontetl at the annual meeting of the Petone Football Club:—"l'our committee desires to place before members -the report for the season ending 1915, a year in the history of our Empire which .has left a never-to-be-for-gotten mark on our footbalksport. As was anticipated, it was found hard to maintain interest in the various competitions, owing to so many players offering their services' with_ the Expeditionary Forces." Our senior team occupied the honourable position of ruu-ners-up,'being defeated in the final by the redoubtable Athletic team. Tlie junior team Was successful in winning their competition, after several interesting games, and they are to be congratulated on -their performance. Owing to the lack of members through the amount of enlistments, it was impossible to enter a third-class team. Our fourth-class team finished third in their section, hard luck alone-prevent-ing them being further up. The fifthclass team once again proved themselves "champions, and wo extend to them and their coach (Mr. Donovan) our heartiest congratulations. The sixths also are to be congratulated on winning their championship. Under normal , conditions with tho successes of the younger players, we have no doubt as to the future success of the club in keeping up to its former standard, and we look forward (when the present strifo.is ended) to having more victorious results. , . ! ■ ."The committee places on record the following names or the club's members „who have answered tlio Empire's call, "and are either at'the front-or'in camp;—H. He played the game on the field, and gave ! his'life in playing the greater, game for his King and Empire. Another member, E. Clarke, also gave his life ' in fighting the foe, and anothei-, 0. Dennehey, died from sickness.' To the relatives of these lata members we ex- ' tend our deepest sympathy. "The finances of the club show receipts for theOyear were £38 15s. 5d., and the -expenditure £30 145.; the club's assets are valued at, £438, and ' the liabilities are nil."
