"Campus."—The present is a close season for all bird game in tlie Welling- . ton Acclimatisation District (according to the Act). Under the Statutes, however, an acclimatisation society has the- right to petition the Government to have the season opened for certain game. As the Wellington (as'well as other societies) is feeling the pinch of war, a petition has been presented to the Minister of Internal Affairs asking that the season be declared open from May 1 to July 31 for all imported game (hares, cock pheasants, Australian and Californian quail) aud native game (grey and teal ducks, pigeons, swans, and pukekos). So far no, reply has been received from the-Minister, but his decision will probably be made known next week, and will be published in The Dominion. The deer-stalking seaeon in tho Wellington district commenced on April 1.
