The M«ori race has responded nobly to'the Empire's nail, but more men are needed, and spenkinc; as lnme Minister of the Dominion, and as head of the Government, I earnestly npneal to. the chiefs of the Maori people to g O . utmost to keep -up the supply, of reinforcements which are so necessary at'this juncture. . I feel confident that tlie, apneal will not be made m _ vain, and that a ready rcsnonse Trill be made by the young men of tho Maori race. -I am very sorry that I cannot be present with, you v>n this important occasion, but my colleague, the Hon. Dr. Pomare., will represent {He Government and deliver this messace from me to you."
