" . ESECOTIVE APPOINTED. A meeting of the general committee of the elliiigtou district of. the New Zealand Branch of the Red Cross Society of the Order of St. John was held at the Accountants' Chamber last evening. Mr. G. Skirtoliffe presided over a large attendance. The objects of the society were explained by Mr. Tiionins Young (convener). , J-le'staled : that tho society .was formed for the purpose of assisting the different.ladies' guilds; providing them with the necessary monoy required for tire work; and to assist them in tho distribution of the articles produced. It was proposed that a central depot 'should be established in each district, to which all goods could be sent, mid from which the lied Cross authorities could draw what would be required from time to time. It was pointed out that this would save a great deal of overlapping that was now going on. Major Holmes, who was present, gave some interesting information us to tho lack of system in sending'goods from New Zealand to the front, and of the trouble caused by' the lack of system at the other end. -The-difficulty, hestated, could be largely overcome by all goods, being sent to the Rod Cross authorities in Egypt. , He also thought it would be advisable to have a New •Zealand representative in Egypt for the purpose of distribution. It was mentioned that Mr. Bernard Tripp had been .appointed New Zealand Commissioner for that purpose, and that ho was proceeding to Egypt at an early date at his own expense.
