INFANTILE PARALYSIS

LATEST CASES. . The cases of infantile paralysis reported yesterday in the Wellington Health District were:—Kilbirnie, 1; Hawera, 1; Inglewood, 1.; Palmerston North, 1; Riwaka, 2; Picton, 1. The District Health Officer supplies the following details regarding infantile paralysis in relation to .school attendance in the Wellington City, Miramar, Onslow, and Karori districts:—"The first case was notified on February 1. To date sixteen cases'have been notified, spread over seven weeks.' Of these ton cases were 5} years or ruider, and did not attend any school. Of the remaining six cases, four attended four different schools, and two woro over school age. This information should disprove any contention that mere school attendance has been responsible for the spread of the cases in Wellington and suburbs. The number of schools in the district referred to is 23, and the number of scholars approximately 9500. The percentage of cases.occurring of school-ago children is therefore verv low, bqing 1 case per 2375 scholars." .
