'JOHNSONVILLB HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. . , The jiutumn::6ho'w . l )of ; r.the Johnson-, ' vi Lie - 'Hortioultural' and Industrial "So-' ciety was held in Moore Brothers'. Hall, in johnsonville, yesterday-afternoon and evening. The display of (lowers, vegetables, and fruit, to say nothing of other classes, was distinctly '.creditable, ■ especially when it is remembered that for some time past tho weather has been-anything but helpful to'the owners of gardens. The. .! vegetable .. exhibits. wers;particularly good,' and fj>r the best collection, of these Mr. Wolf carried off the honours.' The winner of the champion cactus dahlia, "Pierrot" by. name, was' Mr. 0. Cooke. A beautiful display' ■of cactus dahlias • was made by Mr. Shailer, of Palmerston North, nnd Mr. Westbury, of'Taita,- was represented by a fine display of vegetables. The judgo for the cut' flowers arid pot plant's was Mr. .Shailer; for/the vegetables and fruit Mr. Westbury, for the Red Cross,display Mjss Bailey, for the domestic sec-tion-Miss Rennie, and Sirs.' Hunter, for the children's class... The Red Cross work was interesting, and consisted of all kinds-of bandages, garments, etc., needed for men in hospital. It was a good'idea to include, this work'in the . exhibits of the show, as it must help to stimulate activities in this, particular direotion, as well as offer opportunities of comparison with other workers.' Mrs. W. Cooke won chief recognition in this class. Mrs. Griffiths was 1 the chief prize-winner in the cut flowers. The proceeds of tho show go to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. It will again : be open this afternoon' and evening. Mr. F. H. Petrie is the honorary secretary.'
