The committee expressed thanks for the council's donaiion of £10 toits funds. An application for permission to show a suitable programme of pictures from tile King George Theatre, in the s ifternoon and evening of Good Friday, t ivas refused. The engineer's report stated that act-, ing upon the decision of the commit- | tee appointed for the purpose, tho j work of tarring footpaths had been | proceeded with, the cost of which liad I been as follows:—Bridge Street, £12 | lis. lid.; Donnelly's Corner, £8 Is. j ■Id. The estimate for these works was j £14. The footpath in Parliament Street had been repaired at a tost of £9 10s. 6d. The amount expenaed on tar painting srcjiiously was £14 13s. 4d„ so that the total is now £24 3s. lOd. The report was adopted, and it was decided, on the recommendation of the Water Works Committee, that tho engineer should visit Christchurch, and report upon the sewerage pumping operations in use there. PETONE. At the fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council, held last evening, there were present, tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors List, Cox, Forsyth, Brocklebank, Anderson, M'Dougall, M'Kcnzie, Jones and Trueman. The Secretary of the Treasury advised_ that-the Government consent to tho raising of temporary loans of £0000 (temporary deposits) had been gazetted. A reply was received from Mr. S. ! V. Burridgo (manager of the Gear j Company's in respect to a j coinplaint that offensive matter was j carted through the streets in day! time, and stating that steps would be | taken to prevent a recurrence, if pos- | sible. R. Collinson applied for a portion of the old wooden breastwork along the foreshore, for firewood. —Declined. The Town Clerk, Lower Hutt, wrote in respect to tJio matter of the drainage of sections in Wakefield Street, mid stated that in order that a satisfactory arrangement might be arrived at the matter had been referred to tlie Mayor and engineer to discuss with the Mayor and engineer of Petone. Tho letter was received, and it was decided that the Mayor. and engineer should act as desired. Mr. H. Fleet wrote stating, on hehalf of the residents of Koro Koro, that the following resolution had been omitted from his previous letter: "That this meeting considers it an injustice that any Koro Koro ratepayers should b3 rated for Eastern drainage."
At the Petone Court yesterday, before Messrs. J. W.' M'Ewan and A. Coles, J.P.'s, Charles M'Anally, charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. -
