RAILWAYMEN'S PAY
OPINION IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 23. T!ie consensus of opinion among railwaymen interviewed to-day was that tho Department would accedo to tho demands, and that thore was no likelihood of tho matter culminating in a strike. A meeting was to have been held by the men to-night, but has been abandoned owing to the short notice given to country membors. WOODVILLE BRANCH'S RESOLUTION. Woodvllle, February 23. At a meeting of tho Woodville branch of the Engine-drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association, a resolution was carried: "That owing to the inactivity of the Government in stopping exploiting and reducing tho cost of living, the time has arrived for a substantial increase! in wages of not less than 2s. a day."'
