Arbitration Federation or retain its separate identity. It was decided by a majority of 79 votes to join the Federation. The votiii" was as follows:—Votes for the pro° posal, 292; votes against the proposal 213; majority in favour, 79; informal' 5. As a result of the decision tlie Auckland Union will be required to surrender the right of selection, and, with the Federation, may be committed to the 10 p.m. day. The number of members who voted represents a considerable section of the workc-rs, but tlie poll is not a heavy one. Tho decision to join tho Federation is likely to havo a far-reaching effect. Under, the Right of Selection Clause, which will cease"to operate upon tlie expiry of the present agreoment on June 30. anj members of the old union who were excluded from th new union, upon tlie ground that they we're connected with or subject to the control of tho Now Zealand Federation of Labour or similar organisations will be able to join tho local body upon the payment of os. entrance fee. It is anticipated that waterside workers who have been unable to find work ou the wharf 6ince tho formation of tho new union after tho strike of 1913 will return to the waterfront under the Federation.
