AMALGAMATION
« CHORAL SOCIETY AND MUSICAL UNION. For some time past many people interested in music in AVellington have folt that raueh more effective and satisfying work could be done in the department of choral music in AVellington if our two largest and most influential societies would amalgamate. This Reeling has been considerably accentuated since the outbreak of the war owing to the. many members of both the Royal Choral Society and AVellington Musical Union who have set aside the lyre for the rifle. It is, therefore, satisfactory to learn that there have been negotiations to bring about that desirable end. Last week the secretaries of the Union and the Choral Society (Messrs. A. M. Lewis and W. B. Caldtow) mot and discussed the matter, and as the result tho committee of both societies mot and appointed a sub-committea (four members from each society) to go into details., This sub-committee has reported favourably on amalgamation, and subject to fjie approval of the members, to | be asked for at tlie annual meetings of both societies on Tuesday next, the I two societies will be merged into one.
