NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS
'ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (By Teheranh —Association.* Rotorua, February 22. At the annual meeting of llie NewsProprietors' Association, Mr. Selig, president, was in the chair. There was a large attendance from all parts of the Dominion. The .meeting passed votes of appreciation of the action of newspapers' employees who went to the front, and sympathy with the relatives of those who have fallen. The president's address referred at length to the difficulties' in connection with the supplies of paper ; emphasising the seriousness of the position, and referred also to the question 'of extra freight on papers and increased charges on Press telegrams. Regarding paper, he pointed out that many offices were short of supplies, and the position was getting more acute daily. A very heavy agenda paper was gone through. It was decided to consider the question of paper supplies at a special meeting on .Wednesday evening. Mr. Selig was _ re-elected president, Mr. F. Hyman, vice-president, and Mr. J- S. Berry, secretary and treasurer.
A vote of thanks was passed for the hospitality shown to the association's delegates at the World's Press Congross at San Francisco.
It was decided to invite members of the Press attending the Congress in Sydney in 1918, to visit New Zealand, and request the Government to grant thetn facilities for travel in the" Dominion,
