VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL

Messrs. C. Watson, P. Knight, R. A. Wright, C B. Morison, Dr. Anson, Dr. Hector, W. Ferguson, A. R. Atkinson, J. Fleming, and Professor Adamson were present at a meeting of the Victoria College Council held last evening.

Mr. Bruce, demonstrator in physics and chemistry, was given leavo of absence whilst on active service in His Majesty's forces until he receives full military pay as a non-commissioned or a commissioned officer.'

Mr. P. Burbidge was appointed a lecturer in the physics department. On the recommendation of the Finance and Business Committee' the following report was adopted:— (1) The registrar be instructed to write to Treasury, claiming a Government subsidy of £500 on the £1500 paid by the Rhodes Trustees. (2) The registrar be instructed to write to the Public Trustee, with regard to the payment of'the grant from'the Macarthy Trustees. (3) The finances for the : month, amounting to £936 lis. Bd. bo passed for payment. '

Professor Adamson raised the question as to whether the Government sub. sidy on Professor Picken's donation for the use of the Professor in mathematics had been applied for. Mr. W. Ferguson recollected thaji a resolution had been passed by the council that the application should be made. The secretary said that he would go into the correspondence on the matter, but there was no record of the subsidy having been paid in the cash book.
