XMAS SHILLING FUND

STATEMENT OP FINANCES. A meeting of the Christmas Shilling Fund of the Amateur Sports Bodies of Now Zealand was held,last night at Bank's Commercial College. Mr. C G. Wilson presided. A letter was received from Colonel G. W.' Patterson, Acting-Administra-tor at Samoa, and from Adjutant A. J- Carter, Director of Supplies, stating that three cases of comforts had been received by the troops at Samoa and had proved acceptable Christmas gifts. On behalf of the troops at Samoa the writer conveyed thanks for the timely remembrauee. Tho Minister of ■ Internal Affairs wrote askiug that the fund should be represented at the conference of Patriotic Societies, to be held at the Town Hall to-day. Mr. Carr was appointed to bo the committee's delegate at the conference. Mr. Paape expressed the opinion that the surprise packets had each netted £190. The secretary, Mr. Amos, in reply to Mr. Davies, stated that 900 brass-badges and 600 silver ones, similar to those sold on Gallipoli Day, still remained on hand. They were worth about £20. Mr. Marriott moved tho adoption of tho statement of receipts ' anci payments, which showed, that the donations for Wellington City amounted to £2041 os. 9d., from Sports Associations aild Clubs, £624 14s. 2d., and from sources ■ outside Wellington, £633 19s. 9d., making a. total of £3299 19s. Bd. After all disbursements had been made the sum of £387 4s. 4d. remained in hand. Mr. Davies seconded the motion, and the statement was adopted. The chairman said that the 2-ounce packets of tobacco and cigarette papers cost 4}d. each, the jib. packets of sweets, 2Jd. per packet, and the chocolate 4s. Bd. a dozen packets. All were of high-class quality. A vote of thanks was carried to ths chairman and to Messrs. Marriott and Clarke. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr. J. Witt, formerly of Otago, and now in London, for his trouuie in making the purchases there. Letters of thanks were also to the Commercial Travellers' . Club, to the manager'.nf the Commercial Bank for keeping the fund account free of duty, and to the Government for transferring the sum ot £2600 to London free of charge. Mr. Bayfield moved that the sum of £387 4s. 4d. in hand be spent at once on tho lines of expenditure already made. This was agreed to. • During the evening a presentation was made to Mr. A. A. Paape, who is leaving Wellington for Auckland.
