KARORI GOLF CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT. The third annual report of the Karori Golf Club' is as follows:— The links were formally opened for the season.on March 10' by Mr. It. A. AVright, the member for the district. During the year the various club competitions were keenly contested; tho men's championship was won by Mr. T. R. Boyes, and the. ladies' by Miss Shearer. A number of patriotic matches were played by both the ladies and fje.ntlemon. Miss Shearer had the distinction of winning the trophy presented by. Messrs. Douglas and AVatts for competition throughout the Dominion. The thanks of tho club are due to tho following who presented trophies;— Mesdames Gooder, Stent, Hawson, Proud; Misses Shearer and Hawson, and Messrs. Mandel, George, Atkinson and tho club's coach, Mr. J. M'Cormick. On account of the war only one interclub match was played during the season.
Eight of the club's members havo left on active service, and your committee suggests that they he retained 911 the register as absent members during the coming season, and a resolution to that effect will ho brought forward at tho annual meeting. At the commencement of tho season the committee ap|x>inted Mr. J. lii'Cormick, tho club's coach, and a large number of members have takeu advantage of his services. Members have, expressed great satisfaction at the improvement they have made undei his tuition, and tho club is to be congratulated upon having secured his services. Tho lady secretary, Mrs. R. W. Atkinson, was the recipient of a presentation from the ladies of the club as a mark of their appreciation of the able manner in which she had carried out her duties during the season. About the middle of the season the club received notice from tho owner of tho links cancelling tho existing tenancy. Temporary arrangements were made to the end of the season, but the terms, offered for a further tenancy were such that the committee could not see Its way to accept same. A special meeting of the club was hold on November 3, 1915, to consider the position, and as a result a special committee was set up to go into the question oT obtaining new links. This committee reported favourably with regard to obtaining a five years' lease of land belonging to the Burrows Estate, situate on the Main Karori Road, and at a further meeting of the club, on December 13, 1915, members decided to adopt the recommendation of the committee. Negotiations are now proceeding with regard to the new links, and flie committee expects to have them ready for play by April. It is considered that the new course, when in proper order, will be superior in almost all respects to the present links, and it will have the additional advantage that sheep only will be allowed to graze on it. In connection with the obtaining of a new lease it has been found desirable fo have the club registered under tho Unclassified Societies Act. To enablo this to be done the committee has found it necessary to have the rules of the club revised, and the necessary proposals in this respect will be brought forward at the annual meeting. IS was also SeciSed to raise all members' subscriptions one guinea per annum.
During tha season the secretary, Mr. B. Keesing, and tile following members' of the committee, viz., Messrs. BurBoyes and Macßeth, resigned, and* in their places, Mr. Stott was appointed Tion. secretary, and Messrs. (?idrge, Henderson, and Sierers, members of tho committee.
