The Union Company- announce that several important changes will shortly be made in the running of the East Coast service. It ie the intention of the company-to convert the old Te Anau into a. cargo vesßel exclusively, while the Tarawera is to have a portion of her second-clase accommodation removed in order to provide additional cargo space. The passenger service will bo maintained by the Jlonowal and one of the Huddart-Parker steamers, leaving Lyttelton every Wednesday for Auckland, via East Coast ports. In connection with tho ecrvice from Auckland to Gisborne and Nofpier, the Rosamond is to be withdrawn from that service, and will be replaced by the Arahura. The Arahura will leave Auckland on Saturdays for Gisborne and Napier, and return to Auckland on Friday. The new itinerary will be inaugurated in tho near future, and will, of oouree, necessitate further alterations. These, however, have not yet been announced. WAIWERA DUE TO-DAY. In continuation of her voyage from Montreal,, the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Waiwera will arrive in Wellington at about 6.30 a.m. today, and will berth at No. 16 Jervois Quay. The Waiwera, has 1150 tons of cargo for Wellington, and after discharge will sail on Monday for Lyttelton -and Dunedin to complete discharge.. The Waiwera is jxpected to clear Wellington for London during the firet. week of March. MOERAKI FROM SYDNEY, Tho Union Company's steamer Moeraki left Sydney for Wellington at 10 p.m. on Thursday. She has 118 saloon end 117 steerage passengers .for this port, besides 777 tons of general cargo. The Moeraki is due on' Monday afternoon. WIMMERA FROM MELBOURNE. The Huddart-Parker liner Wimmera arrived in port from Melbourne and Hobart at 2 p.m. yesterday, and berthed ,at the Queen's Wharf. Tho vessel had an uneventful voyage, with fine weather- throughout. She is timed to sail at 5 p.m. to-day for Melbourne, via southern porta. ROTORUA'S PROGRAMME. Tho Rotorua's time-table while on the New Zealand coast is: Salis fo-day for Port Ohalmers; arrives Port Chalmers Sunday, and sails on-Wednesday for Timaru; arrives Timaru on Thursday, and sails Friday for Lyttelton; arrives Lyttelton on. Fobruary 19, and sails February 22 for WeUington, where she arrives on Fobruary 23: The Rotorua sails on February 26 for London, via ports. INCREASE IN . FARES. According to private advices received in Wellington it is understood that the steamer passage rates for third-class passengers from Australia to England is to bo increased by about 10.per cent. TARAWERA LATE. Having been delayed in Auckland, the Tarawera, did not reach Wellington until 6.45 o'clock last evening. In consequence of her late arrival she was scheduled to sail for southern ports at midnight. . KAITANGATA DUE TO-DAY. Tho Union collier.Kaitangato, arrived at Picton on Thursday afternoon with a full load of coal from Newcastle. Only a small portion of this will be discharged in the Sounds, and the vessel will oome on to Wellington to-day to put ou the balance. THE VICTORIA. The Huddart-Parker steamer Victoria will arrive in Wellington this morning from Dunedin and Lyttelton, and berth at No. 1' north, Queen's Wharf. After discharging 210 tons of cargo hero'the vessel will 6ail for Sydney, via northern ports, ■ to-night. She is due at Sydney on February 19; TALAWA AT AUCKLAND, formerly known as the German steamer Wotan, but now sailing under tho British Hag,.the turret steamer Talawa, under charter to the American-Australian Lino, arrived at Auckland on Monday from New ■York', after a passage of 85 days. She left New York on November.l 4, and called at St. Vincent on November 30, Durban on December 26, and Albany on January 22 for bunkers. Fine weather was experienced for the greater part of the trip until enterting Bass Strant, when strong S.W. and N.W. winds and rough seas wero mot with for thTce days, after which followed light winds and smooth seas. Tho vessel is of the turret class, being 3834 tons gross and 2403 tons net, with a length of 35Uft„ beam 49ft., and moulded depth 26ft. 6in.; carrying a crew of. forty-two all told. After discharging the Auckland cargo, of which there is about, 2500 tons, she proceeds to Wellington, Hobart, and Melbourne to dlschargo tho remainder. In connection with the intercolonial service the Union Company announces the following alterations:—Tho Moeraki, upon arrival at Lyttelton on March 7 from Syduey, via Wellington, will withdraw for overhaul and survey. Tho Maitai will withdraw from the San Francisco service, and will leavo Lyttelton on March 8 for Wellington. Sydney, and HobaTt, in place of.tho Moeraki. On her return trip the Maitai will come only as far as Wellington, and will leavo here on March 30 for San Francisco. The Manuka, upon arrival at Lyttelton on March 14 from Sydney, via Wellington, will withdraw for overhaul and survey,' and will be rcliovod by the Moeraki, which will leave Lyttelton on March 15 for Sydney and Hobart, via Wellington. The Manuka will resume her running from Lyttelton to Sydnoy and Hobart, via Wellington, on March 29 in place of tho Maitai. VESSELS REPORTED, Tho local agents of tho F. and S. Line advise that the Essex was to have left Sydney yesterday for Now Zoala.nd. She will load in the Dominion for West of England ports. Auckland will bo ]jer first port, and she then goes to Whangarei, Waitara. Wanganui, and Wellington. She will sail for Avonmouth and London on March 3 The Now Zealand Shipping Company's Rimutaka, en route froin London to New Zealand, arrived at Capo Town last Tueslay. The Union Company's Kini, on route to Wellington from Bluff, via way ports, sailed from Oamarn yesterday. She is due Hero on Sunday, and is to sail on Monday for Westport and Greymouth. The Corinna arrived at New Plymouth on Thursday uight, and is expected to sail for Wellington to-day, arriving back here to-morrow. On Monday 6hc will sail for Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru. Tho Kamona leaves Westport for Wellington to-day, and is duo here on Sunday. The American schooner Golden Shore completed her diechargo at Lyttelton on Wednesday. The vessel is bound to Wanganui with the balance of her cargo, and it has not yet been decided upon as to whether tho vessel will be towed up the coast or whether she will sail. After completion of discharge, tho Golden Shore will proceed to the Pacific Coast in ballast. The Union Company's collier Waipori arrived in port yesterday morning, and is echedulod to sail at noon on Monday for Westport to load for Dunedin.
