COOKSFOOT HARVEST

A Clristchurch message, states:—"A great proportion of the cocksfoot seed on Banks Peninsula is threshed, and from everywhere come reports as to the disappointing yield. Crops that look fairly good are not giving the amount expected in many cases. < It is agreed that moro rain is needed to make . the seed como out, and a number of growers talk of the straw a second time. As to price, there seems no rioubt that the fortunate farmers with good seed will obtain a record price. The seed is mostly very clean, indeed, quite free from weeds. Growers are refusing 9,} d.' per lb. on the floor, and expect to, get Is. per lb. and over for dressed seed.
