FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) and Councillors G. Frost, J. Godbcr, W. Hildreth, R. A. Wright, J. Hutcheson, ». J. Thompson, W. H. Bennett, L. M'Kcnzie, T. Bush, A. Veitch, M. F. Luckie, W. H. p. Barber, A. R. Atkinson, J. IJ. Fitzgerald were present at tho fortnightly meeting of the WellingCity Council held last ovening. The following recommendations of the Financc Committee were agreed to: (1) That the council agree to the balance still to the credit of the old Melrose improvements loan, amounting to approximately £400, being used in conjunction with the £500 placed on this year's estimates for the widening at Park Hoad. (2) That the Wellington Automobile Club be informed that their letter drawing attention to the condition of Thorndon Quay between the Lambt<*n Railway Station and Davis Street, and also regarding other 'streets will bo given careful consideration. (3) That two offers to sell land for municipal purposes (one at Evans Bay and the other at the corner of Cuba and Wakefield "Streets) be not entertained. (J.) That tho City Engineer be authorised to extend the water supply to a portion of Mills Road, Vogeltown, when the applicant for the supply commences the erection of his Swellinc. Tho estimated cost of the extension is £37. (5) That tho City Engineer be in- . structcd to take tho necessary steps to compel property-owners at the western side of Oliiro Road to satisfactorily drain their premises, so as to enable the present sanitary, service to such district to be discontinued. (6) That an account for £1 Is. -6d. for clearing a blocked drain at Hataitai, be paid, as the owner concemcd complied with the conditions required by the corporation. (7) That tho District Nursing Guild of St. John be informed that the council cannot agree to allow the guild two free passes, nor to make a donation in lieu thereof, as they are charged at the same rate as all other charitablo institutions. Tho following recommendations of the TramSvays Committee were agreed to: — (I) Tliat the wages of a tramway employes bo made up to full for, the time lie was absent from work owing to an accident sustained whilst on duty. (2) That the following contract for advertising on the tramcars be approved, and the seal of the corporation authorised to bo affixed to same. viz.: Christchurch Meat Co., Ltd. (3) That a small powerhammer be purchased for use at the Newt-own 'carshed .workshops, as recommenced by tho tramways manager. (4) That accounts amounting to £16,995 15s. te passed for payment.
