MEETINGS OF CREDITORS
«, TRAMWAY MOTORMAN. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Walter Henry Briggs, tramway motorman, was held in tho office of the Official Assignee yesterday morning. The. bankrupt's 'liabilities wore set down at £99 13s. 3d., and there wero no assets. In his statement as to the cause of his indebtedness, the bankrupt attributed it solely to illness in his family. This had resulted in his gradually getting behind with his payments. After some discussion, the ActingOfficial Assignee (Mr. S. Tansley) pointed out that nothing could' apparently , be done at present because the bank- , rupt was .not in a position to make atiy , offer. The meeting was therefore adjourned sine die. j ACCIDENT CAUSES FAILURE. A meeting of tho creditors of Henry ■ Homes, bankrupt, labourer, of Lower ' Hutt, was called for 2.30 p.m. at the ' office of the Official Assignee yesterday, but as only two.of the creditors wero ' represented, the Acting-Official As- ' signee (Mr. S. Tansley) adjourned the - meeting sine die. The bankrupt's liabilities were set ! down as £378 13s. 5d., and the assets as nil. In a statement tts to tho cause of ' his failure, the bankrupt said: "Three , years ago I was in business as a hotelkeeper at Nelson. I met with an accident there, and as a result was laid up for 12 months. During my illness niv business went to pieces, and in addition I incurred liabilities for medical attention. I was compelled to givo ud the hotel, and came out with a considerable amount of debt. During the last 18 months, I have been working on a small i wage and endeavouring to pay off my i creditors in small sums. Several of i them have issued judgment summonses 'J against me, and as I am quite unable ; to pay, I am compelled to file." (
