HONOURING THE CRAVES OF OUR DEAD.
&ir, Modesty in these advertising days is rare, and it is just possible it was not shown in fclio "over 10,000' men" record for the City of Wellington. Were not a great number country men? I think so. There is, however, a worse loss than modesty, and that is lioglect of duty, sympathy, and honour to our dead. Even the Turks are honouring the graves of our dead at Gallipoli. Yet we have neglected the graves of ours who died ior us at Pahautanui. Some abler pen than mine may perhaps bo able to write how those men helped to save this City m tho early days, and ondeavour by so doing to reinstate the ionces at least, and perhaps erect a monument. —I am, c'tc., CHAS. E. LEVIEN. February 9.
