CONFIRMATORY REPORTS OF THE ACTIONS The High Commissioner reports: London, January 25, 6.5 prti. "New details confir.n the reports that the enemy's attack which was attempted at the mouth of the Yser, was dispersed by the Allies' artillery. The Germans were unable to debouch except at one point, where some groups penetrated the Allies' trenches, being chased out immediately, after very lively grenade fighting, which caused appreciable losses to the enemy. "In Artois, an action was conducted yesterday against the Allies' positions east of Neuville St. Vaast. It completely failed. It was resumed at the end of the day on a greater scale, after a fresh series of mine explosions, which were accompanied by a very violent- bombardment. The Germans attacked on a front of about fifteen hundred metres, in the angle formed by the road from Arras to Leils, and the road from Neuville St. Vaast to Thelus" The enemy succeeded at two points where tho French firing trench was overthrown by explosionsj and occupied the craters, most of which were retakon almost immediately. "In the Vosges, the French effectively bombarded the enemy's works at Ban-de-sapt." London, January 26, 2.40 a.m. "A violent bombardment of the enemy's works by tho British artillery took place in Belgium. "At Artois there was a lively cannonade east of Neuville and De Wailly. "North of tho Aisne an important convoy was dispersed in tho region of Craonno. "The enomy's heavy batt.*?, in attempting to bombard thb bridge at Berry-au-bac, was damaged by our heavy pieces." :• GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Reo. January 26, 9.30 p.m.) Amsterdam, January 25. A Gorman communique states: —"Our artillery strongly shelled the enomy's positions in Flanders, and shattered his trenches, causing'heavy losses. "Wo destroyed the Dempler Tower of Nieuport Cathedral, Vnich'afforded tho enemy a good observation post, i "East of Neuville St. Vaast, after successful mine explosions, we attacked the French advanced trencnes, and captured three machine-guns and a hundred prisoners."
