Although some of tho Xaldhursfc team will bo raccd at Hawera and. New Plymouth, 1!. O'Donnell will not be there. Jones, tho well-known Gisborne trainer, who recently liad Chortle and others of Mr. Williams's horses under his charge, has enlisted, and is now waiting to be called up. His brother, T. N. Jones, the cross-country horseman, is already hi camp, and is now located at Trenthais. During the Wellington meeting several would-be purchasers wero after the three-year-old Ticino, by Danube from Inlaya, which is owned by Mr. G. D. Greenwood, but the price quoted did not lead to business. The absence of Sir Geo. Clifford, and Messrs. R. J. Mason and E. O'Donnell flxmi tho Wellington meeting caused them to overlook the forfeits for the Middle Paris Plate. This is probably the reason so many representatives from their stables beiiig left in the weight-for-age event. The hurdle gelding Master Regal eeeme a very useful horse. He scored in a jumping event at Ellerslio, won both hurdle races at Whangarei, and then when tried on the flat succeeded in winning the Northern Wairoa Cup. To-day he is back in a hurdle race at Takapuna. W. M'Donald returned iouth last evening with First Glance and Teviotdale. Several other Riccarton horses were sent home, including some of the Chokebore team and Yaldhurst teams. R. J. Mason goeo north on Thursday wjth Emperador, Bimeter, and Nones, and H. Cutts with four horses goes this morning. "The New Zealand-bred Troublesome won a hurdle race at a suburban meeting in Melbourne early this month. The local trainer, J, Scott, intends giving up training, and with that end in view he is clearing out his stables. Tho bay mare Maltegarde, who has recently been taken up after a good spell, is to be sold. llongora, a place-getter on the first two days at the Wellington meeting, was sold recently, but' delivery was not taken, and she ran in J. Scott's* interests at the local meeting. Fresh negotiations are now proceeding, and the mare will probably go into, a southern stable shortly. C. Emerson has been engaged'to ride EI Gallo in the Egmont Cup. G. Price was not satisfied with tho Hawera's liandicapper's estimate of Paurouro's ability, and he will probably allow the English horse to drop out of his, Egmont engagements. The Takapuna Jockey Club's summer meeting will be opened to-day. Amongst the runners in'fiie Cup is the Wanganui | Cup winner, Master Lupin, who is likely to start one of the favourites 011 the machinc. A. Reed has gone north to ride Lady Penury, B. Deeley will be 011 Mullingar, and H. Robinson on King Lupin. The last-named won the Grandstand Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the Ellerslio meeting. In the Zealandia Handicap Snultane, a place-getter in the Christmas Handicap at Ellerslie, is not meeting a good lot, and Deeley's mount may be favourite, a position lie has occupied more often than not, since he has been racing. The Wanganuiowned Denise Orme will be ridden by W. Young in the Stewards' Handicap, which is the concluding event. • Students of form were greatly surprised to find the ch. '111. .so well handicapped after her three wins during tho holidays.
