MOTOR KITCHENS

' A NEW ZEALAND APPEAL. The material advantages of having a motor kitchen near the firing line do not require to bo emphasised. No time would be lost in providing warm drinks and other necessary comforts for wounded soldiers, and in other directions the motor kitchen would fulfilUn important function. The British Red Cross Society declares that the excellence of this object cannot' be too highly commended. In answer to inquiries made, tho following letter was received by Mrs. W. H. Sefton Moorhouso from' Surgeon-General Henderson:—

"'The authorities havo permitted siich buffets to be used in the field; several have been issued by the Red Cross. Whether these buffets are permitted to get up as far as the advance dressingstation , depends on the local General, but I know in some instances they have been allowed to do so, and they have teen tremendously appreciated by the soldiers. I think, however, that they can safely be subscribed for." Captain Atkinson, of , the King's Royal Rifles, wrote recently:—"Two months ago, when I returned from the front, it was impossible for men returning from tho firing-line to obtain any *xtra comforts other than those that Jould be arranged regimentally. If hot drinks could be provided at or near dressing-stations, they would mean everything to the wounded men." The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke) fs making an appeal to New Zealand to provide one of these motor kitchens, the estimated cost of which >s £600.
