ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
INQUEST TO BE HELD. Ail inquest will be held by the Coroner at i o'clock this afternoon concerning the death of Hoy Pereival Kerr, 10 years, whose body was found in St. John's Swimming Pond, adjacent to the Karori Ileservoir, on Tuesday. Deceased was seen alive 20 minutes before his body was discovered, but it is not known' how be camc to get into the pond. His parents reside at Taitville. FALL FROM'A TRAIN. ■ , By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, January 19. * The second south-bound express this afternoon carried a number of members of 10th Reinforcements, returning to their homes on final leave. When the train was about a mile north of Droniore station, a soldier was noticed to fall from one of the carriages, but owing to the length and speed of the train Asliburton had almost been reached before tlie guard learned of the accident. Surfacemen were dispatched to the scene, and Private J. Goodser, of South Dunedin, -was fonnd lying on the grass at the side of the track with his head badly cut and several abrasions oh his face and hands. He was conscious then, and complained of injury to his legs. Goodser, Tvhq is obont 25 years of age, was conveyed to the Ashburton Hospital, but was unconscious when lie arrived thore. Ho recovered consciousness later, and it is expected that tho injuries will riot prove serious. A WOMAN FATALLY BURNED. / Dunedin, January 191 . Christina Loeffler, an elderly married woman, was tending a : lire which she had put on outside her dwelling house at Waitahunii -Gully, when her dress caught fire, and 6he shortly afterwards succumbed to her injuries. SUICIDE IN A HOSPITAL. Auckland, January 19.. Margaret Noonan, ased twenty-nine, died in the hospital from tho effects of drinking chloroform. She had written a letter indicating her intention to commit suicide.
MUSICIAN DROWNED. Duneclln, January 19. Frank Martinelli, leader of the orchestra. at the Grand Picture Theatre, ivas drowned, jn Broad Bay this morning while boating. The body was recovered. A BODl' RECOVERED. Woodville, January 19. The body of Harold Wood, drowned in the Manawatu River at luimeroa yesterday afternoon, was found in a hole ten feet deep close to where lie sank. A cramp was the cause of tlio fatality, as lie was a good swimmer and had been in the water for fifteen minutes. He had been working for J.icksons for twelve months. Wood was 2G years of age. His only relatives living are three sisters—Mrs. Hardy (of' Paimerston), one residing at Newtown, Wellington, and one at Christchurch.
