PUKEROA HOSPITAL OPENED
FOE CONVALESCENT SOLDIERS By Tetoerapli.—Press Association. Rotorua, January 12. £he Pukeroa Hospital for Convalescent Soldiers was opened this afternoon by Mr. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs. There were about 2000 people present. trie local Maoris presented £100 for the purchase of a. piano and roller-top desks for tho hospital.Addresses were delivered by the Hon A. L. Herdman, Hon. W. H. Herrios, Dr. Pomare, Sir James Carroll, arid Mr W. Hill (resident officer), and' severai Maori chiefs. M'r. Russell stated that the following gifts had been made to the institution; —-\\ airarapa, £1000; Hawke's Bay, £1000; Wanganui, £750; Salvation ■Army, £500; Gisborne, £250; Timaru, £100; and Invercargill, £250. He understood that tho Itotoraa people bad Wised £4000 for sick and wounded soldiers, ana lie would like to know where jt was, so that he might geC 6ome of it for tile Pukeroa Hospital. He announced that 1 Mr. Clark, of Eskdale, had given a motor-car, Mr. Gillies, of Rotxirua, a billiard table, and the ladies of Auckland, ■Wellington, and Blenheim, and the patriotic associations had contributed towards the equipment. Tho institution accommodates 400 men. i
