Townshend reports:—AVe repxilsed a determined attack 'on portion of our position on Saturday, inflicting a loss of 600 to 800. Our casualties were under 200. FIGHT FOR A FORT. TURKS DRIVEN OUT WITH HEAVY LOSS. (Rec. December 28, 7.15 p.m.) London, December 27. General Townshend reports:—The enemy heavily shelled the fort on the north side of the Kut Peninsula and on the morning of Friday entered the fort, but was driven out, leaving two hundred dead. Fierce fighting for the possession of the fort commenced at midnight; the enemy occupied the bastion, and retired- to the trenches. On Christmas morning the garrison, in excellent spirits, re-occupied the fort. A whole division attacked, losing 700. Our losses, were 190. ' REBELLION IN PERSIA RUSSIANS DEFEAT AN ENEMY FORCE Potrograd, December 27. \ A communique states Midway between Teheran and. Hamadaa we defeated a Turico-Germaa force of several thousands, including rebellious Persian gendarmes. The enemy lost several positions. Many were killed or wounded and the others fled.
