German military writers insist on tie necessity of prompt action at Salonika. Colonel Moraht says: "It is a strategic necessity to cut off and attack the Anglo-French base, otherwise there can be no permanent safety for the German communications between Belgrade and Constantinople. . He argues that the Anglo-French position cannot be held, as the fortifications of Salonika cannot' resist modern guns. SALONIKA POSITION CONSIDERED IMPREGNABLE. (Rec. December 28, 7;lo p.m.) Athens, December 27. General Castelnau, conversing with the British Minister here, said he considered the position at Salonika absolutely impregnable. General Castelnau has departed. GENERAL CASTELNAU'S CONFIDENT SPEECH. (Rec. December 28, 8.50 p.m.) Athens, December 27. General Castelnau, speaking at a luncheon given in his honour, said: "My only fear is that the enemy may not attack us; if they do. they will get as good a reception as when they tried to call on me at Nancy." Radoslavoif, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, has declared the campaign in Macedonia pnded, and that the Bulgarians. will conserve their positions on the new Grcco-Bulgarian frontier. ' ' _ Salonika, December 27. •It is reported that the Bulgarians have withdrawn four miles between Ghevgeli and Doiran, and are fortifying a line in a strong natural position. The'Anglo-French fortifications, facilitated by fine weather, are being energetically pushed, forward.
