Tlmaru, Pocenrber 4. ~ J-U0 executive of the South Canter'bury Farmers' Union to-day considered matters to be discussed at the conference of the North and South Canterbury Farmers' Unions at Ashburton on .December 9. It is proposed to urge on the Government that the meat for the Imperial Government should be paid for when killed, and that tho farmers 6hould not be kept waiting and paying interest on their overdraft for three or six months. Regarding the wheat and flour duty, it was urged that this should be such as to ensure the Dominion wheat growers fair returns. ' ' Recruiting was also considered. Tho present system was said to be depleting the country districts of-'young men more than it was the cities. It wa6 as important, it was contended; to liavo men for growing food as to havo men at the front.' Returns from farmers for income tax purposes were strongly disapproved of as it would be-imuossiblo for the majority to make them out without a year's notice. .' . Tho delegates will also bring before the conference a proposal, to devote the Beumore run in North Otago to returned soldiers, and that no other land ballots bo held till after the war. i —- — : ■
