MILKING SHORTHOENS

An important announcement is made in our advertising columns to-day of the sale of. Mr. Gordon Salway's pedigree and grade Jersey cat-tie. Mr. Salway in -1914 imported fTom Darbalara Stud Farm, New South Wales, 5 pedigree milking Shorthorns, and proof that lie had selected the best breed possible was given when Dainty VII (one of Mr. Salway's selections) waa shown at the Eoyal Show at Sydney whilst on her way to New Zealand, and succeeded in gaining first award for cow in milk. The imported bull Hose Prince of Darbalara gained the championship at the Stratford and Taranaki Shows last season (the only times shown). As tho pedigree calves to be shown are all by this young bull, a few particulars as to the dairy qualities of his family nlight' be interesting to New Zealand farmers. Emblem of Darbalara, Eose Prince's sire, has held the championship at tho Sydney Koyal Show for milking Shorthorns since 1910, and also special prizes offered for bull'and progeny, milking Shorthorn class, and in addition had the honour of first award for bull and progeny, all dairy breeds. Eose of Balaro, tup dam of Eose Prince, is also tho dam of Banker 11, Prince of Koleigh, David Harum, and Souvenier, all woll-known prize winners at tho Sydney Royal and other leading Australian sihows. ' Trenton, the sire, of Dninty VII, who will bo sold at this sale, is fullbrother to Melba 111, who made 583.381b. butter fat in nine months, and 15,2231b. milk with G53.891b. butter. fat in twelve months, under the Australian Agricultural Department's semi-official, test. The imported cattle have wintered exceptionally well witli Mr. Salway, and the calves by Eose Prince are said to be reallv worth going soinls distance to sec. As Mr. Salway has been accepted for the front, and leaves early, the whole of the catalogue must be sold absolutely without. reservo Inspection at the farm prior to the salo is invited by the vendor, and catalogues can be obtained from the auctioneer or Mr. Salway. • '
