Our big Nortli Island Agricultural Exhibition oi>ens at Palmerston North on Wednesday and 1 promises to 'be of unusual iuterest. A correspondent advises that preparations aro now well forward, and that there is more than the usual enthusiasm this year owing to the fact that the proceeds of tlie show are to go to tho Sick'and Wounded Fund, ill conjunction with the show, tho Manayatu Patriotic Society aro holding a fair in the spacious machinery hall, .which moans ail additional atfcractioh. As regards the slio-.v itself it expected to be, weather permitting, an advance on previous exhibitions. The old cattle, pens are now a thing of the past, and a- very fine spacious cattle pavilion, lias 'been erected oil two ' new sections of land'recently brought info the actual (showgrounds. That this progressive move is appreciated by the cattle-breed-ers is sliown by tho fact that, notwithstanding the scarcity of labour, the enahead of last year, each division being well represented. In indication of, tlie National " character of-tho show is deduced from the fact that entries have been received from Southland, Otago, Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, Tarauaki, and (Auckland.
His Excellency tho Governor and tlie Countess of Liverpool have consented to be present 011 Friday, People's Day. Excursion trams will lie run as usual fi 0111 Auckland, and all other stations smith;.in the North Island. Already Palmerston • North is beginning to assume its show air, exhibits are arriving, and the influx of visitors has commenced and everybody is ' looking; forward'to a most successful , function, which will result in the addition of a gcod round sum to the Sick and Wounded Fund.

Show was made known on Saturday, and several of t'hfc guesses were vei'.y close, and where necessary a draw-off'was carried out:— iWeiglit of bullock, 7331b. —Three guessed the correct weight', and the draw-off placed tliem: R. H. Usher (Hinakura), 1; A. Montgomery (Masterton), 2; 11. Mitchell (Masterton), 3. The two next nearest guesses were: S. H. Usher, and W. H. Usher, 7341b. •Woiglit of tliree sheep, 2031b.—Messrs. (3. Judd (Masterton) and D. Mat'hosori (Masterton) each guessed 203£1b., and Miss Erskinc (Carterton), 202.V1b.' In the draw-off, Mr. Judd was first, Mr. Jlathewson second, and Miss Erskine third. Tilts sheep and bullocks were weighed in the presence of representatives of the society and committee. '
