Wallace Isinglass led' into the straight. Cetigne challenged 'the leader at. the distance, but Patrobas easily smothered both. A great demonstration greeted the winner, who finished two and a half lengths in front of the run-ner-up. Three-quarters of a length separated the latter from the third horse. Time, 2min. 37sec. Jack Delaval and Mullingar were together, Taj Mahl being beaten off at the end of a round run in. 2min. 8 2-ssec. Colonel Soult was three, lengths in front of Goldsize at the end of a mile, covered in lmin. 48 4-ssec. . Hydrus did six furlongs, the last five in 1 in. llsec., and Mandoline six furlongs in lmin. 30 3-ssec.
Independence was better than Hyttus over live furlongs from the mew post, the time being lmin. 7 3-ssec.. Merry Roe, with the assistance of Colonade and, Guiding Way at intervals, ran the mile from the new post, the last seven furlongs occupying lmin. 33 2-ssec. Cultriform and Signo went together over three furlongs, the time being 38 Msec. -■

Christchurch, October 30. The weather conditions were perfect for training operations at Riccarton. From a flying start Battle Eve did six furlongs in lmin. 17scc. Nones, assisted by Emperador, went a mile in 1 in. 42 3-ssec„ and Indigo six furlongs in lmin; 17sec. Warstep and Snub ran a mile and a half in 2inin. 36sec., the pace being solid all the way. Snub, on the outside, finished well, gaining many fresh admirers for the New Zealand Cup. The gallop was the bost seen on the Riccarton tracks for a long time. Ardenvhor had the best of Specialform over a mile and a quarter, run in 2 in. 13. 2-ssec. - Week End beat Medley over six furlongs in lmin. 16 4-ssec. Encore and Daytime ran five furlongs in lmin. 3 2-5 sec'., Adjutant a milo and a. quarter in 2min. 12 2-ssec„ and Dribble and Blackall a mile in lmin. 46 3-ssec. Fabrikoff beat Martins over six furlongs from a standing start in 2 in. 17sec. Marc Anthony, ridden out, took 2min. 41sec. to do a mile and a half.
First Glance, with a light weight up, covered six furlongs easily in lmin. 14 l-ssec., Derby Day half a milo in 50 3-5 sec., and Bee four furlongs in 48 2-ssec., on the tan, comfortably. A number of two-year-olds worked on the course proper, among tho best being Hyttins. Good Hope, Maorilander, Egypt, and Kilbroon.
