A Renter message from Athens states (officially): "The Serbians, after desperate fighting recaptured the town of Kuprulu (Veles) on the west side of the Vardar." SERBIANS RETIRE TO A MOUNTAINOUS LINE. ■ London, Octobor 26. Athens telegrams state that after tho second son of King Ferdinand headed the Bulgars' triumphal entry into Uslnib, the Serbians retired in good ordor to an entrenched mountainous line at Porlepe, between Monastir and Krivolak. twenty-five miles from the Greek frontier. They hope to prevent the capture of Serbian Macedonia before the Allied reinforcements arrive.
The 'Bulgars claim to have captured Negotin, making a junction with tho Austro-Germans imminent, thus enabling thom to forward big guns and munitions to Turkey without traversing Rumania.

Pasitcli, Prime Minister of Serbia, has cabled begging tie friends of Serbia to hasten the dispatch of troops to-save the country, and adds: "For twenty days tho enemy lias tried to annihilate us. Wo cannot hope to mamtain our resistance indefinitely." BULGARS COMPLETELY BEATEN. Paris, October 26. A communique states: "The Bulgarians on October 22-attacked along the whole front tfhieh the French forces are occupying in the Strumnitza region. They were completely,beaten. The reports that the French were thrown back ou the right bank of the Vardar are false." ' GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. ' Amsterdam, October 26. A German official communique states: "The Germans east of Visegrad 'have reached the heights at Suhagorapanos. Von Koewess's and Von Gallwitz's armies are progressing. "We have captured the northern slopes of the Rama Valley, which is south of Palanka, (below Semendria), and have also captured Markovavitk further east. We have taken prisoner 960 Serbians in three days." i LANDING OF THE ALLIED TROOPS FIRST CONTINGENT TOTALLED 13,000 ONLY. 1 London, October 26. The Marquis of Lansdowne, in the House of Lords, stated that only 13,000 British troops were landed at Salonika. These were all that could'be collected at the moment. f FRANCO-BRITISH HOST RAPIDLY SWELLING. ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) . London, October 26. The "Times" correspondent at Salonika, writing under date, October 9, says: "Daily since October 5 successive fleets of transports have discharged, troops, stores, artillery, and ammunition. No figures must be given, but it can be said that our host is mustering, tens of thousands being encamped in the vicinity of Salonika. In addition to thousands of British troops of fmo physique there is a multitude of Frenchmen, in the pink of condition, sunburnt and wnrstained, and already veterans. That such a number can be spared. from our own frontierss is a cheering revelation. No troops could be in better fettle or better equipped." AMERICAN CONSULATE LEAVES NISH.
(Rec.'October 27, 9 p.m.) Now York, October 26. Tho American Consulate at Nish has been removed to Tchatchoff, supposedly owing to the possibility of an invasion of Nish. GREECE MISSES HER OPPORTUNITY OFFER OF CYPRUS HAS LAPSED. London, October 26. When the House of Commons met, Sir P. Magnus (member for London University) asked Sir Edward Grey (Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs) if he coui.l givo any information in regard to tho conditional offer by the British Government to code Cyprus to Greece. Sir Edward Grey replied: "We felt bound, in the very critical position in which our Serbian Allies were placed, to make every possible effort to obtain for them the only assistance which was immediately available. • Accordingly, tho Government made it known that if Greeco would give full and immediate support to Serbia against Bulgaria, Britain would be prepared to givo Cyprus to Greece. As Greece had not seen her way to support Serbia', the conditions under which the offer was made had not been fulfilled. The offer, therefore, lapsed."
