PETONE POLICE COURT
At tho Petone Court on Tuesday, before Messrs J. W. M'Ewan and A. Coles, J.P.'s, Geo. Lawton Little appeared on remand, to answer a charge of assaulting Geo. Vulgar with intent to do him bodily harm. Sergeant Foster conducts ed the case for the police, and the accused was defended by Mr. P. Jackson.
Vulgar stated that on the evening of August 28 he spoke to Littlo and a man named Samson in Jackson. Street. The latter asked witness for a shilling whidi was refused. Accused then referred to witness as a "scab," struck at him and knocked him down. He got rip and retaliated, but Little again knocked him down and kicked him. , He tried to rise, but found his leg was broken and he had been in tho hospital till Monday last.
Witness stated in reply to Mr. Jackson that his leg was broken in the fight, but would not swear that it was Little who kicked him.
After Dr. Harding; and Reginald Samson !had given evidence, the charge was reduced to one of common assault, and the Bench inflicted a fine of £3 and costs.
