Ladies' Guild for Sick and Wounded Soldiers.
A euchre tournament ill aid of their funds for. providing comforts for wounded soldiers was lieid by the Ladies' Guild of the New Zealand .Natives' Association in the Tory Street Hall last evening. There were about twelve or thirteen tables in use and some exciting games were played. Mrs. Hcmpton and Miss S. Wilde tied for first place for the ladies' prize, and upon cutting tho cards Miss Wildo proved to bo the lucky winner. Mrs. Smith was-present-ed with the consolation prize. Corporal Moffat won the gentleman's prizo and Mrs. Furness (playing as a gcutleman) won the consolation prize. The committee consisted of Mcsdames Cooper, ])\ Richards, J. Winder, W. Smith, S. Hempton, and Mrs. M'Vicar (chairwoman): Mrs. Furness was t'lio secretary.
St. John Ambulance Work for the Hos' piial Ship.
In reply to inquiries the lion, secretary of the committee set up by tho St. Jolm Ambulance Association for the second Hospital Ship, wishes it to be .known that the following articles are required:—Feather'pillows, quilts, towels (faco and hand), bed jackets, lindervests and pants, or flannel suitable for making same, pyjamas, felt slippers, handkerchiefs, hair brushes,, thread, tapes, cushions, mufflers, surgical. towels, and material for bandages. It is satisfactory to note tho progress that has been made at. this depot. .. One child had been admitted.to the home during the month. The committee desires to thank ail the friends who contributed money, material, and groceries to the annual gift tea; also to Mr. Howard for a case of jam; Mrs. Jackson, shoes and clothes; Mr. Mawson, buns.; Mrs. Christie, shoes and clothes; Messrs. Hurcomba and Sons, fish every week.

Six Thousand Billies and a Sprig of Manuka. Oil Monday the Town Hall in Auckland was tho sceno 'of great hustle and activity, a busy band of willing helpers, under the leadership of Mrs. W. H. Parke®, starting at 10.30 a.m. to paclc tlie 6000 billies to ho dispatched to tho front to provide Christmas gifts for Auckland soldiers.
The billies are of uniform size, and each contains a pips and tobacco or cigarettes, chocolates, and sweets, in air-tight tins, specially manufactured for the purpose, two khaki handkerchiefs, a small towel, hussif, soap, 'insect powder, and a wallet, containing writing material and envelopes. Each hilly ;ilso contains a "message" from homo in the shape of a sprig of manuka, tied with red, white,' and blue ribbon, and a card bearing the inscription, "Wishing you God-speed and hearty greetings, from the people of Auckland Province, Christmas, 1915." The billies themselves will, without doubt, provo not the least valuable part of.the gift. Tho scheme was carried out by the committee of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League, and the willing workers, to'the number of over 70, were so expeditious that no fewer than 4000 billies had been packed by 4 p.m. Tho billies will be packed in strong cases, r.nd the space between each billy will bo filled up with copies of tho latest Auckland newspapers. The dispatch of these billies from Auckland is part of a general scheme to provide a gift for each of tho soldiers from tho Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago military districts. At least 6000 wero required from the Auckland district, and this lias involved an outlay of about, £1800. A large amount of money is still required before the cost of providing the gifts has been liquidated, and It is hoped that the whole province will heartily respond to the appeal of the. Mayoress, Mrs. J. H. Gunson, for Is.' for each billy and os. for its contents. The "Charley's Aunt" Club. An excellent entertainment was given fiy'the "Charley's Aunt" Social Club last evening, to eelobrate tho opening of their new room in Taylor's Buildings, in | Courtenay Place. There was a largo ; gathering of members and friends, and much pleasure was expressed with the club's new quarters, the room or hall being well sized, with a stage at one end conveniently fitted for entertainments of a theatrical oi" other character. Mr. Atack, the president of the club, presided. The programme which was presented last evening was varied in character, and was much enjoyed. Tho club's orchestra contributed fcliQ opening number, a nd it was followed by t'lie members of the club with an opening chorus. A Dickens' sketch was given by Mr. W. W. Crawforu; 'Mr. halite Wood- gave a character sketch "Tick Took"; Miss Hardinge-Maltby and Miss Kathleen Gold, the letter scemo from "Two Gentlemen of Verona" ; Mr. Kelvin Dillon, a Dickens monologue; and Miss Ruby Scott and Mr. C. flentley Russell a sketch, "Supper in tho Temple," Miss Scott taking tho part of a widow and Mr. llussell that of Kenneth Ross, a barrister. Humorous songs were contributed by Mr. Ernest Luks and Master Winston Macarthy, and Mr. J. Zachariah recited the story of "The Maori at. the Races." A charming Irish song cycle, "A Kerry Courting," was sung by Miss E. Driscoll, Miss G. Watkins, Mr. S. Exton, and Mr. S. Alhvright. Miss Marsh gave a graceful dance, and recitations were contributed by Miss Marie Fix and Miss Thelma Aitken, also songs by Miss Annie Sullivan, Mr. Hamilton Hodges, Mr. S. Alhvright, Mr. H. F. Wood, and Mr. Laslet't Ex_ton ; the latter, by special request, singing "La Marseillaise." Supper was handed round midway in the programme. The officers of the club arc: Mr. Atack, president; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. Manthel, and C. Bentlcy ltussell. The committee is formed by: Messrs. L. W. yfanlon, Pliipps, Williams. Ronald K. Lyon, P. Cording, P. Mim'fie, and Mesdames H. Cane, Cording, Misses Atack and Minifie; Mr. Norman E. Aitken is honorary secretary.
Miss Christine Mackenzie, of Dunedin, who lias been spending the past two years in England, arrived in Wellington, via Auckland, on Monday, on her way through to the south.
Mrs. R. St. John Beere is leaving for Egypt, and will stay there while her husband, Major Beere, of the 7th Reinforcements, is. at the front.
The engagement- is announced of Miss Alico Macdonald, daughter of Mrs. Macdonald, The Terrace, to Lieutenant Kenneth Munro, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Muoro, Hastings. . (Continued on next page.)
