A farewell "social" was given by Mr. and Mrs, E. B. .Williams,,of Waipuna, to two of' their ' employeesj Messrs. Mawdsley and A. Groves, who are joining the Reinforcements at Trentham. The function proved a thorough success, songs, dances, recitations, and patriotic speeches meeting with enthusiastic applause. During the evening Mr. Williams in an appropriate speech took the opportunity of presenting eacli guest with a wristlet watch. Mr. Mawdsley was also presented by the employees with a case of pipes, and Mr. Groves with a set of military hair brushes. At the close of the proceedings a. doll was sold for the benefit of tho Red Cross Fund, and realised the handsome sum of £21 lis. Gd. A hearty vote of thanks passed to Mr. and Mrs. Williams for their kind hospitality brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
