PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

The annual meeting of the Technological Section of the Philosophical » Society was held last night, Mr. 11. AY. Holmes presiding.

In the annual report, which was adopted unanimously, the committee mentioned that the membership numbered 50, while the average attendance at meetings of the section was 25. A {particularly interesting series of papers ■had been road at tlic meetings held, and. the general success of the section had been an effective answer to those who: questioned tho wisdom of' establishing it. Tho committee anticipates that the movement to found a Technical Library 'in Wellington will meot with definite results in the near futuro.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Chairman, Mr. E. Parry; vice-chairmen. Messrs.- J. Marshbanks and F. AV. Furkert; committee, Professor Marsden and Messrs. W. Ferguson, H. Sladden, A. Atkins, .AY.'H. Morton, and R. W. Holmes; lion, secretary, Mr. S. H. Jenkinson.

A paper, entitled "The Manufacture of Iron and Steel in New Zealand" was read by Mr. S. H. Jenkinson, who gave interesting details of the Para.jiara iron deposits and the Taranaki ironsands.
