SUPPLY OF OFFICERS
NO SHORTAGE YET. "The Defence Department lias, not found it necessary to alter the method of selecting officers," said tho Minister of Defence yesterday. "We give preference, to the Territorial officer, but ho comes into camp on probation, and he is not given an acting-commission with the Expeditionary Forces unless he has had at lea6t ' six months'' experience with the Territorial Force. The other appointments to commissioned rank a.re made by promotion from- among the ,iiou-commissioned officors in training. Promotion is by merit, and members of jParliament who may join the . forces fare just tlie same as anybody else." "Wo aro not experiencing difficulty in finding officers." added the Minister. "A very good lot iof non-commissioned officers have been coming forward, and the present system. provides opportunity of promotion for the man who shows keenness and aptitude in his training. I don't think we are going to have any trouble in maintainig the supply of officers. The problem at preset is to get ordinary recruits as fast as they aro needed," in view of the acceleration of the reinforcements."
