OTAKI SPRING MEETING BIG HANDICAP WON BY RENE. Tho Olaki Spring Meeting was concluded yesterday with some very interesting racing. The totalisator handled ,-£11,051, as against .£11,621. for the spring meeting last year. ■'Form pointed to Papaiiira iii tho Trial Handicap, and she was muiti in demand, but it was only pulled out of the fire by a lucky jump out, as the little-fancied 'Namur had her doing her best right to the post. Pall Mall, who began smartly, was.prominent the whole way, and finished third, followed by Joey, Ballyhar, and Al.cny iVndrow. Arlington was first choice in the seven furlongs hack race, but several of the •runners were evenly supported ho. light-weight, Mystified, look charge at tho bottom of the straight, and ran in an easy winner from Arlington; with another outsider in Rou'gora in third place. Combustion, Miraculous, and Vladineau were tlie. next to finish. _ Parewanui was again entrusted with most support in tho steeplechase, but an attempt was made to rido him in behind to-day, anil he rolled over at the -irst fence. Naupata then went oil with Happy Jack, and, jumping well, lie won very comfortably. Merry Lad was close up third, and Katua next. I'hs big handicap resulted in one of the finest races ever seen on the course. A very close finish saw Rene get up and beat Botanist by a neck, with Haumakalta, Square Deal; Merrie Gam, .and Inimer in a heap. The last-named was very unlucky in,running. Gold Soult was left at tho post. _ Happiness drew the rails in the Electro Hack Handicap, and jumping out well, she led all the way, though sho had to bo hard ridden at the finish to. stall off Manu, while Sir Saracen and Limpet were right up, and Jean Laddo was on their quarters. Limpet got stopped twice on the journey, otherwise she would have ■ troubled the winner. : Chnkwnna and Tangiwai were the withdrawals from the Railway Haiidioap, for which T'aringamutu was the public choice. Pavlova jumped out first, but Peronilla dashed to the front inside a furlong, and later on'was joined by the favourite. The two cleared out from tho field, and in a tight finish Taringainutti won by a neck. Pavlova was two lengths away, and then came Hushabye and Black Lupin:. Maltegarde won the concluding e\ent in good style, and put up a consistent performance, as she had been placed second in two races yesterday. Lady Nolan and Blue Thread made the running horn the top-weight, who was a good favourite, and eventually tho two niaTes filled the minor places. Scrutineer fell over at the start, and'gave M. M'Donald a bad. shaking. ' TRIAL HANDICA!'; of. 75 sovs. Five furlongs. 1 Messrs. D. Buick and Son's b. m. Papauira, by Papakura—Mauira, syrs., 9st. (A. Oliver) 1 13 Mr. A. G. Havill's b. in.
